3/20 - Learn How To Sew Lock In
Date: Friday, March 20th
Time: 6:00-10:00 PM
Location: The Dime Store (118 E McKinney St, Denton, TX)
Join us for a special Sewing Lock-In where we’re combining our beginner sewing workshops into one extended night of learning and making! We’ll start with the basics of operating a sewing machine, then move straight into a fun project: sewing a lightweight reusable bag. Whether you’re brand new to sewing or looking to build confidence, this is the perfect way to dive in.
Students will learn:
How to thread their machine
How to thread their bobbin
How to troubleshoot simple issues on their machine
What tools are essential for sewing
How to sew a plain seam, a French seam, and serge-finished seams without a serger
How to hem fabric
By the end, students will leave with new sewing skills, three completed stitch samples, and a fully finished reusable bag!
No machine? No problem! We’ll have machines available for you to use if needed. If you own a sewing machine, we recommend bringing it so you can learn how to use your specific machine
What students receive:
Guided instruction from our knowledgeable instructor

Wine, sparkling cider (non-alcoholic), or sparkling water to enjoy as you create

Meet Your Instructor:
This workshop is taught by Denton's Digital Seamstress, Lillia Whittington. Lillia is a Denton-based influencer who uses her love of sewing to educate the Denton community and online audiences about sewing. She has been sewing since she was 4 years old and graduated in 2018 with her BA in Fashion Design. She has worked for Bailey's Blossoms and Haggar Clothing Co. as a technical designer, developing patterns and fits across both brands prior to COVID-19. After she was furloughed, she started blogging full-time under the name The D. Diaries. Now, Lillia has rebranded to cover her favorite topics of sustainable living and sewing on Just Lillia. Lillia is a TA at TWU in their fashion program, runs a sewing school in Denton, and can be found on the weekends with friends, family, and her husband and blind cat, Toph.
