We all have people in our lives that feel impossible to shop for. We either feel like they already have everything, are quick to purchase things for themselves, or their interests simply don’t overlap with yours. Whatever the case, it’s not easy, and it can take joy out of gift-giving if you aren’t feeling confident.

You would think that owning a gift store would make me immune to that feeling, but surprisingly, it doesn’t. I was recently sitting at my daughter’s soccer game, trying to think about what I wanted to gift someone whose birthday was coming up. I was mentally walking through the store, looking at tables and displays in my mind, and I wasn’t feeling sure.

A couple of months ago, I created a Gift Finder Quiz with the intent of helping you find a gift when you’re feeling unsure or stuck. At that moment on the soccer field sidelines, I thought to myself, “It wouldn’t hurt to try the quiz (that I made 🙃).” To my delight, it helped me! I know DIME and the things we carry like the back of my hand, but seeing the curated list based on the interests of the person I was buying for sparked inspiration and gave me confidence about which gifts would be a perfect fit.

With that in mind, take some time to identify the recipient’s hobbies and interests. Once you’ve done that, we have some ideas (in addition to our Gift Finder Quiz) that you may find helpful when you’re feeling stuck or uninspired in the gift-giving arena:

  1. Shared Experiences:

    • Consider gifting experiences like concert tickets, workshops, or spa days.

  2. Practical Luxuries:

  3. Memory Lane:

    • Create a nostalgic gift, such as a photo album or scrapbook of shared memories.

  4. Charitable Donations:

    • Make a donation to a charity or cause they care about in their name.

      • Suggestion: We love supporting Lovepacs. They provide meals for food-insecure students during holiday breaks.

  5. Educational Opportunities:

    • Gift online courses, workshops, or educational subscriptions based on their interests.

  6. Time Together:

    • Plan an outing or special day together, focusing on shared activities.

      • Suggestion: Museum outings, food tastings, or look at your city’s event calendar for upcoming festivals.

  7. Gift Cards to Unique Places:

    • Opt for gift cards to specialty stores or experiences related to their interests.

      • Suggestion: Your local bookstore, plant shop, spa, climbing gym, or coffee shop.

Remember, the key is to think outside the box and tailor your gift to their individual preferences and personality. Do you have any additional tips? Leave them in the comments below!
