Family-Friendly Holiday Fun in Denton, TX

We all know that the holiday season can be full of enchantment with a generous dash of overwhelming chaos. If you have kids, the magic-making struggle can be very real. We’ve been on a mission to make this time of year less stressful for you in terms of budgeting and helping you find gifts for those that are easy to shop for and those that are difficult to shop for, and we are here to continue on that mission! We hope to sprinkle a bit of stress relief and a whole lot of festive fun into your life and the lives of your kids. Let’s see if we can make holiday outings easy-breezy and enjoyable for all!

We’ve gathered a list of family-friendly activities in Denton, TX- no need for overthinking, just effortless fun!!

  1. Wassail Fest 12/2- This is such a fun event in Denton, and the majority of it is free. Not only can you scoot from business to business tasting free wassail (we’ll be serving wassail from 5-9 pm!), but there’s also a tree lighting and tons of performances by local musicians and dance groups. To top it off, there is a pretty epic winter wonderland for your kids to participate in. We recommend getting to the square early and grabbing a bite to eat before the festivities begin so that you don’t have to fight so hard for parking.

  2. Christmas on the Farm 11/25-12/3 on Saturdays and Sundays- Free admission, but you need to register! Real Christmas trees and wreaths. Selfies with Santa. Storytime with Mrs. Clause. Paca Express barrel train. Peck-a-Paca Kissing Booth. Letters to Santa. Local artisan market. Paca Pub , and more!

  3. The Markets at True Leaf 12/2, 12/9, & 12/16 from 10 am-1 pm- Not only does True Leaf have lots of local vendors set up to sell their handmade goods (which you know we love), but they also always have exceptional food vendors. Enjoy some coffee or pizza, and get a plant and some handmade gifts while you’re at it! Our family loves going to these markets, and it’s a nice daytime outing.

  4. Beth Marie’s 25th Bday Celebration 12/4 at 2 pm - Enjoy .25¢ cones and $2.50 sundaes at the iconic ice cream shop on the square.

  5. Loteria Night at El Taco H Wednesdays Nights from 7-9 pm- Admittedly, this is not a holiday-exclusive event, but it is fun! If you haven’t played, Loteria is like Mexican Bingo with pictures and words instead of numbers and letters. So it’s easy enough for kids to participate, and they’ll learn some Spanish if they don’t already speak it. Plus, their food is delicious, so it would be a great night for everyone involved. We play Loteria with my husband’s family at every holiday gathering, and it’s a whole lot of fun for both grown-ups and kids alike.

  6. The Nutcracker at UNT 12/8, 12/9, & 12/10- If you’re looking for a classic Christmas outing, this is it! Beginning in 1988, the Nutcracker performance has become a holiday tradition in Denton. Tickets for this sell pretty fast, so don’t wait!

  7. Night Hike at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center 12/15 from 6-8 pm- Join in on a night hike at beautiful Clear Creek Natural Heritage Area trails.

  8. Reading of “The Christmas Carol” at Wolff’s Park 12/15 from 5-6 pm- Do you love a good storytelling experience? This is a great outing for families and can be accompanied by a delicious dinner from a local restaurant in the area.

  9. Look at Christmas Lights in Southridge- The Southridge neighborhood does an excellent job of decking out their houses. Bonus points if you find the Frenchy House decked out in orange and blue lights!

  10. The Harry Potter Experience in Little Elm- This is neither Christmas-specific nor in Denton, but it would make a really fun experience for anyone who loves Harry Potter, and it’s a short drive away!

We sincerely hope that this list of family-friendly activities in Denton will allow you to dial down the stress and dial up the joy. Cheers to a magical and stress-free holiday season with your loved ones!
